Hi,

Stephen from Doggie Style here. We had the exact same argument internally when we were branding our company but in the end we decided that the attention it received outweighed the negative. We make a point to never play on the name in any marketing or advertising, so you'll never see "Doing it Doggie Style!" from us. It's actually amazing that there are people who don't get the double meaning when they hear it in the context of grooming their dogs. Also, the naming has worked wonders for customer selection; it tends to put off fussy high maintenance people while those with a sense of humour and fun give us a call.

The name seems to cross socioeconomic boundaries; a sense of fun seems to be the common theme with our customers. We are proud to have customers from both the wealthiest parts and poorest parts of Dublin.

Hi Shar.

Good points, well made. It's certainly is a name you will not forget and word of mouth is very powerful amoung freinds, network contacts etc.

I just hope I don't start appearing in Google for the term 'doggie style'. I wonder too though could that specific term ever fail victim to the adult content filters Google and the other engines operate. I mean if I did refer the company onto someone and they tried to search on Google, potentially the actual doggiestyle.ie (legit) website could get filtered out along with all the XXX crap, no?

I think alot of people that would get professional dog groomers to come out to there house would be glad of the attention!!

On a serious note...after blogging about them on your site and even thinking about it enough to blog about it, their branding has worked wonders. When you think of dog grooming you'll think of Doggie Style. Even if a friend of yours asked you if you knew a good dog grooming service, chances are you'll mention Doggie Style, even if it's just to comment about the branding. Then it's in their mind....
